Timing is everything in farming. CropsBook gives you a set of interlocking calendar and planning tools that help you schedule plantings, track weather patterns, plan rotations, and never miss an important date.
Farm Calendar
The Farm Calendar is your unified view of all farm events. Access it from the Dashboard or from More → Farm Management → Farm Calendar. It shows:
- Planting dates for all crops
- Expected harvest windows
- Task due dates and reminders
- Spray application schedules
- Equipment maintenance due dates
With a Pro subscription, the Farm Calendar syncs to your device's native calendar app (Apple Calendar on iPhone and iPad), so you can see farm events alongside your other commitments.
Planting Calendar
The Planting Calendar (More → Farm Management → Planting Calendar) is built specifically for succession planting. You can:
- Enter your last and first frost dates to anchor the season.
- Add crops with their days-to-maturity and succession interval.
- See a visual timeline of when each crop needs to be started, transplanted, and harvested to maintain a continuous supply.
The AI-powered Planting Optimizer in the AI Tools Hub can analyze your current planting schedule and suggest adjustments to smooth out feast-and-famine harvest patterns. PREMIUM
For market farmers, succession planting is the difference between having salad mix every week and having it only twice a month. Use the Planting Calendar to schedule at least 3-4 plantings of fast-growing crops like lettuce and radishes.
Weather Journal
The Weather Journal (More → Farm Management → Weather Journal) is a seasonal log of weather events and growing conditions on your farm. Record:
- Frost dates (last spring frost, first fall frost)
- Significant weather events — late freezes, heat waves, drought periods
- Growing degree day (GDD) accumulation
- Daily high and low temperatures
- Rainfall amounts
Over multiple seasons, the Weather Journal builds a local climate record that's more relevant to your specific farm than regional averages. This data feeds into the AI tools' predictions for planting timing and harvest windows.
Companion Planting Guide
The Companion Planting tool (More → Farm Management → Companion Planting) shows beneficial and antagonistic plant relationships. When planning what goes in each bed for the season, check companion planting recommendations to:
- Pair crops that enhance each other's growth or flavor.
- Use companion plants to naturally deter common pests.
- Avoid combinations that suppress each other's development.
Crop Rotation Planning
The Crop Rotation tool (More → Farm Management → Crop Rotation) tracks crop family history by bed across seasons. Use it to:
- See what was planted in each bed for the past 3-4 seasons.
- Follow a rotation plan that moves crop families to prevent soil disease buildup.
- Plan the upcoming season's bed assignments based on rotation best practices.
CropsBook groups crops by botanical family (Solanaceae, Brassicaceae, Cucurbitaceae, etc.) so rotation planning follows agronomic principles rather than just common names.
